Chandlers archives reduces its carbon footprint and brings down its rising electricity costs

Bill & Paula Chandler, owners of Chandlers archives Ltd, wanted to reduce the company's carbon footprint and bring down rising electricity costs so they turned to Westinghouse Solar Ltd, a carbon Trust accredited installer of Solar PV. Due to high electricity costs and the company’s carbon footprint reduction plan, Solar PV proved to be a great option as not only are they able to reduce their electricity bills but with the government backed FiT (Feed-in-Tariff) they are able to produce a significant income and helping the business fulfil its carbon footprint reducing targets.

Solar panels: return on investment

To advance the company's efforts to improve its environmental performance and reduce carbon emissions, Bill & Paula invested £30,000  in solar panels. Following an on-site technical survey data was prepared using the Carbon Trust assessment model, reassuring Chandlers that the initial estimates of the amount of renewable electricity generated by the solar panels was accurate and would provide a return on investment of between 6 to 8 years.

Chandlers consumes approximately 7,665kWh of energy a year and we are likely to produce 17,000kWh of energy from our PV system. Through this technology, we are reducing the energy we are burning off the grid and so will have a surplus of electricity - producing more than we are consuming, making our investment cash-positive. The excess will go back to the electricity network, making our office, in terms of electricity, carbon neutral.
